Calling Card Wet Film Thickness Gauges are 2 1/4 x 3 1/4″ rectangular aluminum gauges with four measuring sides, for measuring the wet film thickness of coatings including paint, enamel, lacquers, and other wet coatings applied by any method (sprayed, dipped, or brushed) to a smooth substrate. Stock wet film combs are printed 0 – 80 mil coating thickness on one side, 25 to 2000 microns on the other.

Wet Film Thickness Gauges (WFG or WFT) conform to ASTM D4414, “Standard Practice for Measurement of Wet Film Thickness of Organic Coatings by Notched Gauges.”

Wet Film Combs are simple to use: Press the gauge into the wet (uncured) coating at right-angles to the substrate. Remove the gauge from the film, taking note of the highest-measured tooth with paint on it, and the next higher tooth that has no paint. The wet film thickness falls between these two values. Gauge accuracy is + 0.2 mils over the range of 0 – 80 mils thickness.

To prolong life, aluminum WFG can be cleaned with solvent immediately after use.
