NEW TITLE HERE
DeFelsko PosiTector SHD A Shore Hardness Durometer measures the hardness of non-metallic materials according to the Shore A scale. Couple DeFelsko’s universal Standard or Advanced PosiTector bodies with a Shore A scale durometer probe, to measure the hardness of soft to hard materials, and store the readings for evaluation or incorporation into inspection reports.
Many quality standards are requiring testing of the hardness of applied coatings. PosiTector SHD provides the means to check hardness of a variety of coating types, in a digital gauge that can store readings, date and time stamp stored readings. Like all PosiTector gauges, the SHD is simple-to-use, durable, accurate, and provides a variety of performance options to suit any application where Shore hardness values must be determined.
Hardness testing of softer materials, such as rubbers, plastics, and epoxies, is necessary in pipeline coating and repair, rubber and plastics manufacturing, tire production, and gasket and seal manufacturing, among other industries. The relative hardness of the material determines which hardness scale is used. The Shore hardness scales are used for relatively softer materials. In general, you would select:
Shore A – soft to hard materials, including soft rubber, elastomers, neoprene, silicone, etc.
Shore D – medium to harder materials, such as hard rubber, epoxies, hard plastics, PVC, acrylic, etc.
PosiTector SHD Shore Hardness Durometers conform to the following standards:
- ASTM D2240 – Standard Test Method for Rubber Property—Durometer Hardness
- ISO 868 – Plastics and ebonite — Determination of indentation hardness by means of a durometer (Shore hardness)
- ISO 7267 – Rubber-covered rollers — Determination of apparent hardness — Part 3: Pusey and Jones method
- ISO 7619 – Rubber, vulcanized or thermoplastic — Determination of indentation hardness — Part 1: Durometer method (Shore hardness)
- DIN 53505 – Testing of rubber – Shore A and Shore D hardness test
Like all PosiTector gauges, the Shore Hardness Durometer is supplied with NIST-traceable, long-form Calibration Certificate. The SHD can be used in-hand, or with a Durometer Test Stand to ensure consistent probe placement and applied force.
